Published in 1858 by Derby & Jackson, written by Frank B. Goodrich, the title page reads " The Court of Napoleon or Society Under the First Empire with Portraits of its Beauties Wits and Heroines". Stated third edition. 30 chapters, 416 pages
This book is stunning in appearance!!!!!!!!! Tooled Moroccan leather and pages gilt on all three sides. Normal rubbing at corners and spine but not much really for a large book over 150 years old!!!!!!!!! Some age toning to pages. The only defect is that the previous owner removed (though carefully) the pictures out of the book with the exception of the first one which was of Marie Louise (see picture). There is some foxing around the picture which is normal ( no acid free paper back then).
I checked the ABE worldwide book web. There are only 3 listings. One listing is just for the picture of Marie Louise at $75. and the other two are for the book at prices of $250. & $275.
Just as a piece of decor this book is exquisite, plus you have the historical reading of the Napoleonic Era.

All, with the exception of the Astor book, are first editions. All are in original DJs. The Heston books are really mint. The Chevalier book has a little wrinke to DJ. There are tears to the older Astor, trapp, and Cash books DJ. Lite fading to the top of the DJ of the Douglas Book. All the books are clean, with no tears, stains, fraying, damages.
All are collectible each in their own right!
Fabulous reading at $4,00 a book compared to what you get in a junk paperback (which costs more). Several of these books are truly mint and of fine gift quality.

This was a gift from Mr. Koontz to one of my favorite longtime booksellers of some time back. Jeff had to also clean out his shelves (only he had 4000 books) and he sold this one to me. "Sole Survivor" is a gripping thriller and was turned into a made for TV movie---one of his best I think. Anyway, THIS BOOK IS DEFINITELY MINT GIFT QUALITY!!!! Jeff put the DJ in a protective mylar cover. No turned pages, stains, tears, etc....Jeff, Mr. Koontz and I are the only ones to have handled this fine book.
