I wanted a boat that would be stable in pretty much any weather and that my wife ( who doesn't like boats ) could be comfortable in so I started with a 1976 Silverline, 16' Trihull that is coupled with a 50 hp Mercury 500 outboard.

I put a new stabilizer fin and propeller on the motor and to the trailer I added a set of 5' guide bunks, new loading winch and changed the lights and wiring harness and bought a set of Rod Saver tie downs. I recently put new tires and wheel bearings on the trailer.

I pulled the original lounge seats out and installed a pair of Cabela's Big Man boat seats on adjustable swivel pedestals and removed the bench seats in the bow and added a fishing deck with some storage underneath.

The original rubber floor covering was pulled out and marine grade carpet was installed.

I raised the windshield 12" and added plexiglass side shields for more protection from the wind and weather during a run.

The boat now has an Eagle, Fish Elite 480 combination fish finder and gps with an added speed sensor.

I added a sweet Motorguide W55 wireless trolling motor with 55 lbs of thrust ( this will pull the boat along at 3 mph ). I got the optional hand held control fob so I could operate it from anywhere in the boat.

There is an independent deep cycle battery for the trolling motor and the heavy duty 6 ga wiring and circuit breaker / on-off switch were installed to meet the manufacturers requirements.

It also comes with 4 adult and 1 childs life vests , 2 pole holders, docking fenders, ladder, portable gas tank and trailerable cover.

I have about $ 5k and 100 hours of my time invested invested in this toy.

This kayak is a very good family boat. This kayak has 3 seats, can ride solo or tandem paddling, the middle is where you sit if you're paddling solo, the outer 2 are for tandem paddling. Large weight limit, the weight limit on this kayak is 500-600 pounds, which is more than most tandems by about 200 pounds.

This kayak has tons of cargo space, in fact, some of the most space of any ocean kayak on the market, large bow hatch and rear tank well, as well as lots of extra room in the seating areas and in the middle "jump seat." All this makes it possibly the best boat available for two-person camping expeditions and touring. The speed and stability make it great for paddling around. Its speed comes mostly from its 16+' length and its 30" beam (width), which is narrow enough to not compromise speed too much, but wide enough (with the typical Ocean Kayak hull) to give it enough stability appropriate for non-racing conditions.
