We hear ,often,-- that people want to help but don't know what to do.. what is needed or just can't think of how to start-- hope this will help get the ball rolling--

Please consider Volunteering to be a part of your holiday giving plans..

59 simple.. cheap or free ways to help..

1) Donate a scrap fabric or sew a ferret blanket/hammock
2) Donate a carrier (garage sales, thrift shops are great for locating these cheap
3) Donate a bag of food
4) Donate some treats
5) Donate ferret “soup” making supplies
6) Play with a ferret
7) Groom a ferret
8) Donate some grooming supplies (shampoos, combs, brushes, etc.)
9) Help take pictures of shelter ferrets for posting on petfinder and websites
10) Donate the use of a photocopier
11) Donate a gift certificate to a pet store
12) Search the internet using Goodsearch (a website) that contributes commissions earned to a rescue group
13) Donate a first aid kit
14) Provide a shoulder to cry on when the rescue person is overwhelmed
15) Clip coupons for food or treats
16) Talk to your vets to encourage them to offer discounts to rescues
17) Write a story for your local newspaper,class or club on ferrets currently looking for homes or ways to help rescue
18) Donate a bottle of bleach or other cleaning products
19) Use your video camera to film a rescue ferret in action
20) Help the clean up the yard (yes, we also have to scoop poop)
21) Pay a house-cleaning service to do the spring cleaning or offer to lend a hand on major cleaning days
22) Lend your artistic talents to your club's newsletter, fundraising ideas, t-shirt designs
23) Donate printer paper, envelopes and stamps to your club
24) Go to local businesses and solicit donations for a club's fundraising event
25) Help pet owners be better pet owners by being available to answer training questions
26) Help research and put together an *Owner's Manual* for those who adopt rescued ferrets
27) Donate a coupon for a free car wash or gas or inside cleaning of a vehicle
28) Get some friends together to build/repair an enclosure
29) Get some friends together to put a fresh coat of paint or new floor tiles in the rescue rooms
30) Buy two of those really neat pet-items you "have to have" and donate one to a Rescue
31) Donate your professional services as an accountant or lawyer (especially if you can help with non-profit 501c3 paperwork
32) Donate any gift cards you get. Cleaning supplies can be bought through many different stores and even a restaurant gift card will give the shelter operator a little break.
33) Donate bottled water or bottled water service— to provide clean safe drinking water for pets and rescuers.
34) Volunteer to come once a month and help trim nails and clean ears.
35) Offer to help teach a ferret care class through your local animal shelter.
36) Help educate animal shelters on ferret care.
37) Join Support Our Shelters Buck-A-Month Club. Even a small donation can go a long way.
38) Make extra Ferret Soup to donate to a shelter.
39) Donate a ferret book to your local library so people can learn about ferrets
40) Donate sheets of linoleum or other flooring leftovers to put in wire cages to protect little tender toes
41) Buy a jar of Turkey or chicken baby food when you are grocery shopping to donate.
42) Donate some canned Science Diet A/D.
43) Donate other types of safe doggy/cat toys that might be entertaining for rescue ferrets
44) If adding a ferret isn’t the right choice right now, sponsor a ferret at a shelter.
45) When purchasing your ferret supplies, buy one extra item for a ferret shelter.
46) Make a disaster/first aid kit for your pets and an extra to give to a shelter
47) Help teach a program through a school or library on caring for ferrets or encourage your child teacher to request a classroom visit by your local shelter
48) Maintain a list of media contacts in your area and contact them when something ferret related happens.
49) Donate used ping pong balls or biodegradable cornstarch packing peanuts to a ferret shelter to use in dig boxes.
50) Donate a filing cabinet, storage cabinet or shelf to a shelter to use for storage.
51) Find events where a ferret shelter or ferret education table can be set up to help educate the public.
52) Offer to help fold the shelter’s laundry or to take a load or two home with you
53) Get some friends together to have a shelter cleaning day
54) If you own a business, donate any services you could provide. ( good for public image and possible tax write-off)
55) Offer to ferret-sit for shelter dad/mom once a month for the entire day. You’ll be surprised how much you learn!
56) If they live in a rural area and shop in a nearby city/town call the shelter and ask if they need anything when going on your shopping trip.. Often the prices are better and this will save the shelter time and gas money.
57) Donate other services ( even good coffee service is appreciated) if you run your own business
58) Donate a raffle item if your rescue is holding a fundraiser
#59 --- VOTE -- whenever you hear of a grant or contest your local shelter is participating in-- Vote or click or ???? and encourage others to do the same..
