Job Description: Applications Engineer - Food Equipment

We have an immediate opening for THE Applications Engineer who is self-confident, has experience with commercial kitchen equipment, is 608 Certified in refrigeration, and is able to follow instructions when nobody is watching. Our company manufactures commercial kitchen equipment, which consist of refrigeration, electronics, valves, motors, and vacuum components.
It is easy to find people who can turn a wrench, follow simple instructions, or do the same thing all day long. What we need is somebody who can think on their own, but who can still follow instructions. We need an Applications Engineer who can understand how equipment works and figure out why it stopped. This person will need to understand the importance of calling the customer before driving to their site, will report to the office after every service call, and can communicate coherently and precisely what they did and what parts they used.
The ideal candidate will need to be able to diagnose or solve problems methodically and correctly. Applications Engineers normally work alone but have technical support from the office or the factory when needed. Training typically takes about 2-3 months, but you must have at least 3 years field diagnostic experience in at least one trade for the training to make sense. A clean driving record is also necessary.

Job Summary:
The Applications Engineer will be responsible for providing on-site installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of our food equipment at customer locations. This role requires a strong technical aptitude, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently. Additionally, the ideal candidate will possess the experience and initiative to assist and make recommendations for areas such as site layout planning, equipment modifications, and creation of technical documentation.
Responsibilities:
In the Field:
• Installation, Maintenance, and Repair:
o Perform on-site installation, commissioning, preventative maintenance, and emergency repairs of food processing, packaging, or commercial kitchen equipment.
o Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and control system issues.
o Perform equipment inspections and generate detailed service reports.
o Ensure equipment operates according to specifications and safety standards.
• Customer Service and Support:
o Provide exceptional customer service and technical support to clients.
o Train customers on equipment operation and maintenance procedures.
o Respond to customer inquiries and resolve technical issues in a timely and professional manner.
o Build and maintain strong customer relationships.
General:

o Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies.
o Promote a safe working environment for yourself and others.
• Reporting:
o Complete accurate and timely service reports, expense reports, and other required documentation.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree or technical certification in areas such as Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, HVACR, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in field service or engineering within any automated equipment industry, preferably food processing equipment or semiconductor equipment.
• Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
• Hands-on experience with industrial process equipment; food processing, packaging, or commercial kitchen equipment.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel extensively.
• Ability to lift and move heavy equipment or work on a ladder for brief periods of time.
• Knowledge of food safety regulations.
Optional Skills:
• Experience with PLC programming and troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of sanitary design principles for installation in food prep facilities.
• Experience with welding (other than braising) and fabrication is a plus.
• Experience in Cad and Solidworks is a plus.
