Deagan "Diana" Marimba Model# 40 (built 1939-1942). 4 octave (C-C), metal resonators, vintage Rosewood bars, in tune. Excellent condition. Firm price only. If you inquire, add the word "IROK" in the subject line to get a reply.

I've had the instrument for over 60 years since my father bought it for me in 1958. It's in the same classic condition as when I first got it. Extremely well taken care of, solid frame, and in tune. It would be extremely difficult to find one from this era in better shape. Barely a scratch on it.

I replaced the rubber spacers on all the bar posts and the black rubber tubing between the upper sharps and flats. The original string for mounting the keys of both the upper and lower bars was also replaced a while ago when the original string started to become frayed. I replaced it with a stronger and lighter nylon cord which was advised by my teacher at the time, Celso Hurtado, with whom you might possibly be familiar. The thinner string helps generate a more resonant tone rather than dampen it.

The brackets that connect the metal pipe holding the two frame ends together was also replaced when I first got the instrument since the original ones cracked due to being made of pot metal because there was a lack of available steel during the 40's. Everything else is original.

I think $2,000 is an extremely reasonable price for this exceptional classic instrument.
