ABUV Media is a quickly growing, profitable online publishing startup that helps consumers make informed decisions about complicated topics such as higher education and personal finance. We do this by building well-researched online resources with useful interactive tools.
We have an immediate opening on our team for a Director of Web Product Management. You will be responsible for managing daily priorities of and timely execution by our offshore web development team, coordinating with our business leads, editors, marketers, and operations staff. This team member will serve as the go-to internal leader for strategy and execution of how our sites should be built and maintained for great user experience across a variety of devices.
This role could be a great fit not only for candidates with mid- or senior-level technical program, project, or product management experience, but also senior web developer leaders with a strong penchant for moving into a project management function.
ABUV values team members who have a bias for action and take ownership. This role demands someone who can manage to deadlines with dependencies on individuals who may or may not be direct reports. We prize candidates who regularly come up with practical solutions to challenges and can prioritize based on considerations of user value, business importance, and marketing strategy.
This role is based in ABUV's headquarters in Reno, NV, just steps from the Truckee River. Relocation assistance is available, but local candidates are strongly preferred.
Gather requirements for and scope, resource, and manage execution of quick-turnaround web development projects of varying size, from new site launches and page buildouts to optimizing existing sites for users
Apply technical knowledge to set overall requirements for developer team (vendor performance management)
Identify and build business cases for pursuing technical process and code improvement initiatives for better user experience and scalability, particularly for mobile users
Establish a robust and measurable process for project intake, prioritization, resource allocation, and release
Communicate in a compelling way (in writing and verbally) with business stakeholders about roadblocks or timeline shifts, tradeoffs of requirements vs. time/effort, and proposed solutions to challenges
Set the bar high for continual improvement of web technologies, especially as they apply to the evolving search marketing industry
Management of 1 - 2 direct reports (depends on experience)
Bachelor's degree in a technical field
3 years of full-time experience as a technical project manager or technical product manager, or 5 years of full-time experience as a web developer
Superior organizational skills, with a track record of managing website build projects, especially WordPress sites, to timely completion
Excellent ability to communicate with and command respect of technical and business team members
Critical thinking skills and problem-solving mindset to troubleshoot project blockers and create project plans for multi-faceted problems
1 year experience managing or collaborating heavily with offshore developer teams
Not required but a big plus:
Proficiency with JIRA
Knowledge of SEO and digital marketing fundamentals
Experience as a people manager who develops skills of direct reports
